Great script.

I had to add 3 extra lines after

$webclient = New-Object system.net.webclient

to get it working with a proxy server.

$proxy = new-object System.Net.WebProxy "proxy.server.com:8080" #replace proxy.server.com:8080 with your proxy server address and prot
$proxy.UseDefaultCredentials = $true
$webclient.proxy=$proxy

So Nic, you are saying that the root cause was not a corrupt .NET Framework install, but was due to the Windows 2003 bug? Can you elaborate on that a bit? We've been living with the CLR errors in our Transactional Replication seemingly ever since we applied SQL Server 2008 SP2. Prior to that we'd not seen this error. Could be something else is the root cause, but we really need to find a permanent solution for our production environment. If the .NET 3.5 SP1 reinstall is not a fix, then we'd be willing to try the Windows hotfix seeing as how this is a 2003 x64 box. I likely will be reaching out to Microsoft myself if I can't get that warm fuzzy. I appreciate your post, as it has been quite helpful. Thanks, -Patrick

Thanks Megan, Bob. I also felt it was acceptable but that's ok, the interviewer was after something very specific. I later came to find out that the interviewer thought I was interviewing for a completely different position.
